For essay #2, having Fanon’s essay on “National Culture,” take a position on the Chronicle article read for Wednesday, March 20. Do you agree with the author? Why or why not? Is there a way for the study of literature NOT to be political? If so, how? What, in your opinion, is gained (or lost) by de-politicizing literature as a field? Whose goals/aims/interests are furthered by doing do?
Cite at least 3 works read from class in your essay and use then to support your argument. You should have introduction followed by three paragraphs (one for each example), and then a conclusion.
We will workshop a draft of your paper (at a minimum have a detailed outline in class) on March 25, and the paper itself is due April 1.
