The section of the Literature of Place will examine the South as a crossroads of global activities and globalization, focusing on North Carolina and Western NC in particular. Students enrolled in this course will read texts by authors from the South and around the globe who have either passed through or called the region “home.” In addition to honing writing and critical thinking skills, students will explore humanity’s struggle to understand itself and engage with different modes of looking at, knowing, and perceiving what it means to live in the South and what the region means to diverse peoples in the global environment.
