ENGL 190: Essay #2

We are currently discussing storytelling as a literary art. The story “Jesus Before Columbus Time” from the anthology Living Stories of the Cherokee takes up the mantle of storytelling as history.

In the context of our previous reading from Cabeza de Vaca, consider this story as history. Is it or is it not history? Why? How is a story like this different/similar to Cabeza’s text? Does all history have some kind of fictional element to it? As a story, what does this narrative express or explain?

Your final draft of this paper will be due by class time, Monday, November 9. The final draft will be submitted in BB, should be 2-3 pages in length, and follow the format specified on the syllabus.
